Very Big Game Hunting - Capcom Uses BodyPaint 3D to Texture Giant Beasts in Best-Selling Wii Video Game Monster Hunter Tri

BodyPaint 3D helps Capcom slash the time it takes to texture awesome 3D models.

The mighty foes that roam the land and sea in Capcom's smash-hit video game Monster Hunter Tri were textured with the help of BodyPaint 3D, the advanced 3D painting application from MAXON for creating high-quality, detailed textures.

Awesome monsters, as well as human characters that hunt them down, together with mighty weapons used by the hunters, were textured by Capcom using BodyPaint 3D's advanced UV editing and texture painting tools.

One of the most strikingly beautiful titles ever developed for Wii, Monster Hunter Tri - the third installment in the popular Monster Hunter franchise that has sold over 10 million units - depicts a living, breathing ecosystem where man co-exists with fantastic beasts that roam both land and sea. Featuring online and offline cooperative modes, players can join online hunting parties with up to four players or play with two players on a single TV for selected quests.

Capcom's talented games artists created the 3D models in SoftImage XSI, which were then sent to BodyPaint 3D at the click of a button for UV editing and texturing.

"BodyPaint 3D has many useful features for texturing that we don't have available in our main 3D application," said Capcom. "BodyPaint 3D has powerful tools for relaxing UVs and removing texture seams, and it lets you paint directly onto the 3D model using layers. Using BodyPaint 3D has streamlined our workflow. We can get more texture work done in less time."

With direct connections to 3ds max, LightWave, Maya and SoftImage XSI, and seamless integration with CINEMA 4D, BodyPaint 3D also boasts many import formats, making it compatible with all popular 3D software packages.

An instant hit in Japan upon its release on August 1, 2009, Monster Hunter Tri was the first third-party Wii game to have an initial shipment of over 1 million units in Japan, and is only the eleventh game to receive a perfect rating of 40/40 from the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu in the renowned publication's 20-year history.

Now the monsters are heading to the West. Monster Hunter Tri will be released in both North America and Europe for Nintendo’s Wii system in early 2010.
